Does anyone of a gunstock outfit that can still turn a sporter stock for a Steyr or Hembrug bolt-action Mannlicher? I was nosing around on the net and saw that Great American Gunstocks offered one, but they are gone now as is their buyer, Walnut Grove out of Idaho. I guess the military stuff is drying up -- along with the Baby Boomers who loved to fool with this stuff. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

Heard back from Randy. He doesn't have a pattern for the old Mannlichers. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

I have a duplicator and have a friend who has several of them, one of which needs to be re-stocked. I could likely get a hold of that broken stock to use as a pattern. Steve

US Gun Inletting & Stocks has a pre-carve on EBAY for the 93/95 MAnnlicher. It's funky wood in the butt portion (grafted they say?) It's listed as: Dutch 1918 stock It's been there quite a long time. I did inquire of them sometime last year about turning one for the M95 Dutch in a better wood. They said they could do it and IIRC the prices were in the $400/450 range depending on the wood qual of course. Here's their website http://gunstockinletting.com/riflestocks.html They don't show the 93/95 MAnnlicher in the list (they did at the time IIRC). But there is a 1907 MAnnlicher listed but that is a rotary mag Schoenauer from the looks of the cut. I didn't go through with the project, so I can't say one way or the other about the place. It may be the co that bought up Great Amer Gunstocks,,(I have a feeling it is). Great Amer G/S(GAG) I do have opinions on and I can't print them here. Good riddance to them. My 95 project still sits.It may now come from a Port. M96 Short Rifle. Same action, cal as the 93 Romanian. I'll just go ahead and make a stock. What else do you do when retired. I have another, built on a Romanian 93. A German or Austrian built carbine, mannlicher stocked, DST little beauty. Other than the scope mt holes in the side wall of the recv'r, It's all set. Shoots nicely. I'll get to those holes about the time I make that stock most likely.

Thanks 2152. That is an odd piece of wood they used to turn that stock, isn't it? My action is a Hembrug 1916, so it would probably work. Rolland, I am sorry I missed your suggestion early in the thread. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author

I have an opinion that I will post; GAG were crooks, and the guy who bought what was left, forgot their name, was a bigger one. They were desperate to sell anything they could. Looks like gunstock inletting .com is a different operator; Hopefully.

Tom, I heard some pretty bitter complaints about them, too. There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t. – John Green, author
