Having bought my first MRC and getting it Sat, I spent a bit of time sat. night playing with it and checking it out. I bought this from hardin284 here on AR. It was the SS w/21" barrel, in the McMillan SG stock. The pillars and the bedding were first rate but the barrel was only floated for about 5.5-6" from the forarm back, so I releived a bit more to float the barrel back to the front of the action. I put a set of bases and rings on it an topped it with a Leupold 3X9 Euro, 30mm tube. Gave her a good cleaning, checked the action screws and the barrel for fit after my tad bit of sanding and she was floated to within 3/8" of the front of the action. Bore sighted and up the hill to the range. By the way, this gun has a very smooth an crisp trigger, much nicer than expected. After shooting 6 rounds to get her dialed in, I shot 4 groups of 3 shots each and this little gal was holding a rock solid 1/2" off the bench. I did have a bit of a problem with the bolt throw as I guess I may have been using to much force and it hung up a couple of times. All in all, it seems as if it will be a very good shooter. Gun,scope sling and ammo comes in at 9lbs.

Jimmy, congratulations on what sounds like a very nice, very accurate rifle.

Jimmy, Is it a MRC barrel too? Did they sell it as a barrelled action? I haven't gotten around to sighting in my MRC .308 yet but I like your results. Rob

It's good to hear from somebody who has actually SHOT one of the MRC's. It seems like everybody wants to jump on the bash-MRC bandwagon lately, but it also seems that the vast majority of those who actually own and shoot one are quite happy with them. I don't own a complete MRC rifle, but a buddy does (in 30-06), and after handling it, I can't seem to find all of the supposed faults that everybody complains of, and I know that he is tickled with the performance. I do own a raw MRC action, and am happy enough with it that it is on my "someday project" list. Thanks for the hands-on review jimmy!

Rob, yes it was a barreled action from MRC. CB, Overall it is a workable gun. Being SS it does not seem to be near as smooth as winchester classic. I have no complaints as far as function, each round chambered fine and smooth and ejected each and every time. Note: I was sober at the time so I can't say how it functions "Upside down" I did have a few issues with the bolt throw as it seemed to bind a tad bit if thrown hard but this also could have been partly my fault. The inside of the action on the left raceway was very rough and could have used quite a bit of polishing. As I said above, the trigger was as nice as any I have seen and much better than most. Overall, it is a very nice useable gun, heavy in that it is 9lbs fully loaded. Keep in mind that I bought this complete rifle at 1/2 of what the owner had in it so, would I buy a MRC for a project? NO My choice would be a donor Winchester Classic.

Glad you like the 308, Jimmy. That rough part of the left of the internal part of the action you mentioned was part of the rcvr wall, and not actually the raceway, right? The raceways were polished. If so it is purely cosmetic and due to the casting & lack of polishing in that part of the action. I agree it is a little unsightly compared to a milled action I believe MRC builds a quality action / barrel at a nice price. I originally bought the action for $350, barrel for $321(installed), and the bead blasting was free. NOT BAD! It probably shot 1/4" before you got to sanding on it. did you shoot it first? Herb Reilly beds all of his rifles this was(out close to the end of the shank) Enjoy!

hardin, yes that was what I was trying to say, the actual casting. It probably shot 1/4" before you got to sanding on it. did you shoot it first? No I did not, never thought of that. Hell, I don't think I could shoot 1/4" anyway. By the way, did you get the ring and base? thannks again for a great deal.
