With the angled front mounting screw do I tighten it up and then slightly let off after putting the action in the Marine Tex?

Although I didn't do it myself, I believe
the front and rear screws were fully thightened while the bedding cured.

With all rifles, Ruger 77 included, the screwws should act as a locator only. I use tape around the barrel ahead of the receiver to establish the action level. the screws are tightened up to just make contact with the seats, then backed off very slightly. I drill out the stock at the screw locations and cast a glass pillar. I do this on the 77 as well. A .010" piece of shim stock between the hinge plate and magazine box and the front of the trigger guard and magazine box ensures the box doesn't act as a spacer.
The goal is to have the action sit in the stock stress free. Regards, Bill.

I realize that I could create a misunderstanding with what I wrote. What I meant to say is that screws are tightened until they make contact, not more and certainly not dead tight against a still soft bedding material.
