Anybody know what kind of finish the Ruger Target Grey is? How is it applied? Can anybody besides Ruger do this kind of finish? Thanks - Kurt

I wanted to duplicate this finish on one of my projects a few years back... Never did make it.

The best I can tell is it's the standard bead blast stainless dipped in Ruger's blue tanks... I'm told it's not very durable anyway...

Anyone else???

I had some gunrack wear on one of m77 barrels. When I contacted Ruger they said it was a "tumbled finish" whatever the hell that means. They wouldn't give me any info, so I just blasted the whole rifle with powdered limestone, for a nice dull satin finish, screw Ruger.

It's called Terhune Anti-Corro, the best I can come up with is it's like a vapor blasted finish. Kind of like Snap-On screw driver tips.

You can't match it, either have the gun bead blasted, or are brushed finish applied. I agree that it isn't the most durable finish, as it has already worn off in places on my 480 SRH.

I just spoke to the good folks at Browmells today, they confirm that it is a "tumbled" finish. I assume like they tumble bullets to plate on the molebdnum disulfide finish. Anyway the good news is that Brownells is working on a kit to apply the finish as well as a spray on product to match the finish for spot repairs. They say watch thier website for these new products coming soon. Thanks all.(No I don't work for Brownells, they are just the best gunsmithing catalog I found)
