Of all the currently available Mausers and Mauser manufacturers out there, which ones would you say have the "best" inletting.

By best, I mean sharpest, accurate, tight, neat. I'm looking to make a pattern stock based on original LR Mauser inletting- so I don't want anything rare or collectable...

DeeBee, if you are looking for an old stock to use for a pattern, then take the one you have and glass the action in and it will be nats ass so to speak. Far better than looking for something that was done the best, yours will be accurate to your action.

I'm trying to work up a couple patterns right now...

The 1909 Mauser pattern I have has been so hogged out behind the magazine box that only a 1/4" web of wood remains. I know stockmakers are doing this because of the various aftermarket trigger sizes.

I want to use a tuned single stage Mauser trigger and would like to retain the original Mauser inletting as much as possible THEN glass my action to that stock- I feel if I start with the best, I might end up with something good... Wink
