Guys,

I was looking at a nice Winchester 70 classic model (yes, with CRF) in 22-250, and was wondering what all would be involved in converting this into, say, a 7mm-08?

I have not done my leg-work here yet, and figured I would aske here to see if anyone has experience of know how.

Given a cursory look, it appeared to be a straight forward deal, but of course, this was just me looking at the action. I could not tell for certain if the 22-250 used a different magazine or follower. I would also imagine that the feed rails would be different on a 22-250, but not sure. I figured that if anything, there would be more material left in there so one could always take away a bit and get the feeding spot-on.

Anyhoo, if anyone has some sage comments here I would love to hear them.

TIA

I have both M-70 PF in 22-250 and .243 and the magazines and followers are different.

While it seems like a sure thing....rebarreling to 7-08 may require different follower and other parts.

They should be available however so go for it....the 7-08 in the M-70 classic will be a fine deer/elk medicine.

Measure the magazine box in the .22-250 to be sure you have enough length to accomodate the 7mm-08.

If I am not mistaken, the 22-250 and the 7-08 were both made on the SA (short action). You can look on the barrel where the caliber is stamped and see if it says SA there. If it does, then your action will be just right for a 7-08. I know this becasue I have an SA (short action) in .308 that works beautifully.

70sa has 3.080"magbox,enough for 7x57 if you prefer it to 7mm08. Im reasonably sure you can get a follower for Sa70 that they used when they chambered them in 6.5x55.

I have a 22.250 and a 243 Model 70s, push feeds, but the magazine for the 22.250 has a shorter spacer in it...

Get one for a 243, and you will be fine!

A 7/08 is a great round! and a good choice...

Thanks for the comments!

I did some checking, and confirmed that the 22-250 has different part nos for the mag follower, magazine box, and mag spring, as a couple of you guys suggested. Looks like about $35 in parts, new.

The one I am looking at is a Classic CRF SA model, and I just don't ever see many of them, especially the older ones, so that is why I was drawn to this one. I hjaven't been able to determine if the receiver feed rails are different between the 22-250 and "08 based rounds, but would have to imagine they are.
