Marlin 1895 barrel switch

I am contemplating switching barrel on my 1895, same caliber, has anyone done this?
what pointers can you give?

I haven't done it myself, but a few years back I had a 1895 that had been cut to 16". Too much to shoot, so I sent it back to Marlin. They rebarreled it with a standard 22" barrel, blued with sights attached. Don't remember the final total but it was under $200 total. About a year ago I asked if I could send the rifle back to have it converted to "cowboy" configuation, 26" barrel, full magazine. At that time they quoted me a price of around $300...just a thought.
