how do you put a tang safety on a m-98 mauser. How expensive is it to have it done? If you own a gun and you are not a member of the NRA and other pro 2nd amendment organizations then YOU are part of the problem. | ||

The "new" Remington 598 has a side mounted push-pull thumb safety instead of the Mauser wing safety. It's located to the right of the bolt shroud and inletted into the stock. Nope Thanks. I don't know how I typed a "5" I was looking at the picture in the magazine when I typed it and thinking what a fluff piece the the article is. "Good accuracy" is 1.5 - 3"+ groups. Matt Canjar used to make a tang safety for his excellent triggers. If memory serves me, they could be had either as a separate piece (held in place by the tang or as a weld on option. Don't know if they still offer it or if they are even in business. | |||

Thank you for the replies. Veore made a rifle /98 with a tang safety that was an add on. you just had to inlet it into the stock. Does any one know where one might find one of those?? I have one of the "seperate piece" Canjar units, and they don't look like they would be that hard to make. Extension, button and Z-link together might take a couple hours to fab up. They could even be made with handtools, if one is so inclined. | |||

For years the German firm Rechnagle advertised one in their cataloque but I havemn't seen a new catalogue for some time. Looked to me like it just popped on the action. No real gunsmithing. | |||

I tried to get Canjar to make a run recently and was willling to commit to relatively large number oof units but they declined. Since the kids took over their production is limited to what sells fast. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson. | |||
