Parker Hale 98 bottom metal
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220068756368 is a dural Parker Hale hinged floorplate and guard that just made $113. These show up from time to time on ebay. Will they fit into the inletting for a commercial FN or a JC Higgins? How is the quality? I would guess the weight saving would be several ounces.

I purchased one from Brownell's a couple years ago. I looked at it for about 5 minutes called them and put it in return mail. I was not at all impressed. Nice and light I agree. But in my opinion the floorplate looked like cheap plastic. Maybe if they had left the antelope off of it.

Just my opinion. I'm sure they sell plenty and others are prefectly satified.

As usual just my $.02

I use them not so much as I think they're excellent.....but that they're light and where else can you find super light weight bottom metal.

I have four of them now.....but everyone to their own...

Beauty is in the eye of the bubba, uh, beholder. I agree, I wouldn't use one either. I'm amazed at the crap people will install on their rifles.

Here's three of them all on VZ-24 actions and another at the shop in process!

If you filed off the awful embossing and polished and reblacked the whole thing it might be more acceptable.

I have considered that as a real possibility....but don't have a way of getting them annodized again...

A good suggestion however!

My memory is jogged and I think those originated with Michaels of Oregon, don't know who makes them now. I think also at one point Holland & Holland was making lighweight bottom metal, maybe in the 1960s.

I sent Vapodog an email about anodizing. You cannot hard anodize 7075 or 2024 aluminum. It has to be soft anodized. Aluminum castings will anodize, but will look like shit. You might keep these things in mind when needing anodizing. Most of the cheap alum. botom metal assm. are painted or powder coated.
