I had bedded a Rem 7 in marine tex previously and now it has a new barrel and recoil lug and needs a rebed. Should I redo the entire job or just rebed the lug? Do I have to use marine tex (Im out currently) or can I use steelbed to redo the lug? The action was full length bedded before and the action shows no signs of stess so I hesitate to just dremel everything out.

Todd--

There is two *general* types of epoxy available......pure resin and epoxy with filler. Marine Tex is pure resin and so is AcraGlass, AcraBed, etc. There's no problem having two types. I do it all the time.

Do you dye the Marine Tex and if so, what do you use?

Any cured epoxy is a mechanical bond, not chemical. The stuff sticks to most any thing except some plastics, just rough your surfaces to 80grit or worse.

Thanks for the responses.

-Ian I think the Marine tex is a bit to heavily pigmented to dye, its a dark grey/black as the base color. Might be able to lighten it up but I have never tried, my hunting rifles get painted up with Alumahyde II so it is not visible anyway.

Gray Marine-Tex is filled with a non-ferrous metal. I can't speak for white Marine-Tex.
