Rem 1917 375?

So I just picked up a M17 Remington in 375 H&H. It seems the chamber is to tight to allow the bolt to close on new brass. I hope this is an easy fix. The handle looks to be plated and the knob halved and checkered. I know I don't like this.
I was wondering also how hard is it to have it cock on opening? Does anyone make a trigger for it? It still has the military two stage. This might be a better winter project but I am going to start getting info now to see which way I want to go with it.

Both Dayton and Timney make a trigger for the Enfield. The bolt handle is original and has been highly polished, flatened and checkered...cost a few dollars to do this and if changed the stock won't fit correctly at the bolt handle. You should take the rifle to a gunsmith for the bolt closing issue...it's most likely the ammunition your using....if you are using a fired case I have seen many issues and needless repairs. Cock on close is a good set up....cock on open kit is also available from Dayton however a pain to install. Numrich used to make a kit and sometimes you can find one at a Gunshow or Smith's shop.

Very good rifle in a nice calibre.

Ron,
I was using new empty brass to get the 'too tight' issue. Almost like its not chambered right. The barrel looks in good shape and is most likely unfired. Thanks for the other info.

"Paint" the brass with a sharpie, then attempt to chamber. The rubbed off ink will let you know where the problem lies.

I have had a few 375's over the years and have never had one not chamber a new empty brass. In fact for my other 375 I use this same brass and just load it from the bag. No sizing. I will size one anyway just to see if it gets better or not. I have seen this in 458's. The sharpie will be #2 on the to do list. I have talked to my smith and he said he can fix the chamber issue. I figure worst case scenario is a different chambering like a 375wby. Best case is a touch with a reamer to finish it off.
