Hi all

What is the cost difference between a new barrel for a bolt action such as a Ruger 77, a Win M70, a Rem 700 as opposed to a barrel for a Ruger #1?

Thanks

Jim

To the extent there might be any difference, it would not be as great as the differences between manufacturers. I would suspect that gunsmiths charge the same amount to install a barrel, within limits, regardless of make. Ku-dude

Jim B--

The #1 has an odd extractor slot that requires a mill or milling attachment to do. There's also the problem of scope mounts. Re-mounting a quarter rib can take as long as rebarreling a M-700.

There's usually more than double the work in a #1 than the others you named.

In addition, Ruger #1s are sometimes so crooked just straightning up the action can burn a couple hours. It takes some fixturing to hold them while squaring the breech face and some creative set-ups to square the receiver face with the barrel threads.
