I'm thinking about putting my Mark X Mauser in a non-Monte Carlo synthetic. Anyone have any experience with the Bell & Carlson product? A friend has a Carbelite model and I like the lines (I'd rather have a fatter comb than a cheekpiece). His (on a Rem. 700) is fully bedded--in your experience what kind of inletting and bedding work is necessary or advisable with one of these for a Mauser action? Or, any other suggestion for a reasonably-priced synthetic would be appreciated. John

I have a Carbelite on a MK-X and on a Sako. They both needed to be bedded but it really wasn't that tough. Go for it you should be happy.

The B&C stock is OK. They are a little light in the fore-end. You will definitely need to bed it. If you intend to free float the barrel, you will need to stiffen up the fore-end. ------------------

I put an FN commercial Mauser 30-06 into a Butler Creek Stock. I had to do some altheration of the inside and some glass bedding work, but it turned out real nice. Will do .75 inch with Winchester 180 gr. Silvertips. (Who sez Mausers won't shoot? ) I've used a lot of Ramlines and a couple of McMillans. If money is no object, I give the McMillans a serious look. They even have versions that really do look like real wood. They're very pricey though. Never have used the B/C, so can't say what I think there. Paul B.

I have one of the newer B&C stocks with the integral aluminum block (like the H-S Precision) on my 9.3x62 FN Mauser rebore. Picked it up for $200 from Lock, Stock and Barrel, Inc. Just bolted it in w/ no bedding work, the barrel floats free, the aluminum reinforced forearm is pretty stiff. The thing shoots 250 gr X's, 250 gr Ballistic Tips and factory Norma 286 gr ammo in an inch all day. I am pleased.
