Does anyone make a .411 diameter barrel?
I know Shilen does not, for starters.

Also, if not, then I am thinking about loading for 405 Winchester, but using .416 bullets.
I figure because it is a relatively low-pressure round, coupled with the fact that it is only a .005 difference, the brass wouldn't really get work hardened that much.

Any thoughts?

My .400 Whelen has a Shilen .411†barrel the other two built at the same time also have Shilen barrels.

I believe Montana Rifle Company has a .411 barrel....they furnished my .423 and IIRC they also was able to produce the .411

Krieger makes a .411" barrel, they did the prototype rifle barrels for the .400 H&H.

Also I owuld check Lothar-Walther.

I think Douglas also makes a .411 in their XX line.

Oooh. Maybe I missed that Shilen makes a .411

So what do we think about getting a .416 instead? More bullets and easy to 'form' the brass.

You didn't mention what chambering you're considering. I'd say of the 40 calibers, the 416 rem mag is the most practicle. You can load it down to 405 or 400 whelen levels, and load it full patch as well.

I guess Brownells doesn't stock it in .411.

My plans are to make a No.1 Mk.3 Enfield into a 405 Winchester. I think it would be neat to turn it to original shape so I can use all of the old wood.

If I have to get a .416 barrel, I would think that the .005" difference wouldn't work-harden the brass that bad.

That means that he's gotta expand the 405 neck with a 416 expander to use the 416 barrel.

Mr. 475 guy, he is only expanding it once and only .005. If you did it every reload I would understand. Butch
