Anyone know who makes a peep sight for the cz in 416? I have an email into Ashley/XL to ask about it. I have asked for either one that clamps onto the scope grove, or that I can Drill and Tap for this.

Brockman makes a real nice aperture sight that fits the Marlin 336 action. This sight has protective ears on each side and is both vindage and elevation adjustable. I think it is flat on the bottom and the hole space is .500 in if my memory serves me correctly. It should work just fine mounting on the rear bridge of the CZ 550 with two tapped holes. Brownells should have one if not then contact Brockman directly. Good luck. Cheers! Ming

When you fit a new rear sight like this, I assume it will be higher than the factory original on the barrel? Does that mean the front sight has to be altered to compensate and if so, would you need a lift or lower the front sight?

I got a reply from Ashley. Their 'smith told me to use the ruger base, and drill and tap. It comes with a test front sight, so it'll be interesting. So, one friend's cz416 and another ruger 416 can use the same peep.

Ashley also makes a rear sight combined with a Weaver scope base for Remingtons. I'm going to have my smith mill the bottom of it flat and screw it to the bridge of my CZ 550 in 9.3x62, then add another steel Weaver base to the flat on the receiver ring. That will give me a standing peep sight--I hate folders--and a return-to-zero scope mounting system. Spacing between the cross slots will match that of a Picatinny rail. Work commences on it in about a week.

One thing to remember about a peep sight is that one drop of rainwater can ruin you whole sight picture. You can blow it out or wipe it off, but that's an extra operaton you may not want to have to do under time pressure.

Just my $0.02 on aperatures. For $0.03, I'll tell you that threee of my rifles wear Williams WGRS peep sights, and I've yet to have this happen to me.
