My ignorance may me showing with this question. Is it possible to change a hinged floorplate on a M700 to a detachable magazine? If so, is it a job for me or should I have my gunsmith do it and how much will it cost? Thanks

I called Remington told them I have a BDL and wanted to know if it was possible to convert to a DM. The lady I was speaking with recomended that I do not do it. She said there would be some metal work involved. I think she is confused with an ADL to BDL DM conversion. Brownells does have a kit made by H-S Precision and it is $185. H-S Precision also has the same one for sale on their web site, it is $200. They also have the option of a ten round magazine ($245). I think it would be more cost effective to go buy a used BDL DM and build what I want around it. Thanks for the info.

No there is metal work required to do a conversion to the remmington DM model. The rem factory rifles have the feed lips in the reciver removed. I think that somebody here last year said that they did not like the rem system and that it failed to feed several times. If i remember right he sent his rifle back and got the standerd bdl model instead.

I happen to own a Model 700 Police Tactical that has the detachable box magazine and also own a Model 700 BDL Varmint Special. Some time back I was interested in seeing how close the H S Precision stocks v-block bedding system is to a good quality glass bedding job so I took the action out of my varmint rifle and mounted it in the tactical stock. The rifle functioned perfectly including feeding thru the detachable magazine, however.....here might be some slight differences in the machining on the bottom of the action, I would just have to take both out of the stocks and compare them to check for sure.
The assembly that H S Precision has for $200 is not the same as the Remington setup. THe H S Precision uses a clip that looks like the one for the M1A.
