Hello.
I was over at my local gun dealer yesterday and saw a Winchester rifle that looked a bit strange. Now I�m no expert in any way but I�ve seen some rifles in my days but this one was all new to me.
I think the model was called 777, it had the locking lugs at the rear of the bolt and the safety was placed like on a shotgun. Tangsafety?
The rifle was a bit bulky regarding the stock but the action looked and felt great.
The bolt was jewelled.
Man it was smooooth!
It also had some engraving on the action and floorplate.
The man in charge couldn�t tell me anything so as usuall I�m turning to you masters.
The caliber was 30-06 and the price asked was 500$.
What can you tell me about this one?

Could you be talking about the Win '95 ? I read somewhere that they were presently being reproduced but I forgot the new model name.

Yes, it�s a bolt action rifle.
What do you meen when you say it�s worth a fortune?
My experience is that sometimes it�s of some value over in the states but of much less value over here. And of course the other way around.

I THINK Winchester made a 670 and 770 "Ranger" series at some time in the past. Maybe that's what it is?

No the gun isn�t new but whoever ownd it has been kind to it. It�s in very good condition.
If Winchester made something like a 700 series I would imagine this is the top model.
The craftmanship is great and the feel of it is like any custom rifle I ever saw.

Here is what is in the 21st edition of the 'Blue Book' verbatim.;

"MODEL 777-- .30-06 cal., bolt action, 4 shot mag., mfg. by Nikko in Japan durin 1979-1980 for sale to Winchester subsidiaries in Austrailia, Germany, Italy, and Scandinavia, only 3 were shipped to the U.S., checkered Monte Carlo stock with Wundhammer swell grip, lightweight barrel, engraved action, "Winchester" is cast on left side of receiver near the top, aproxx. 1,000 mfg. with 250 in 30-06 cal. - 750 mfg. in different cal. and sold elsewhere, 8 1/2 lbs."
