Why are there not more rifles out there with the safty on the tang. The Brownings use one and the Savage to some extent but thats all. I have an old Liberty model Ruger with one and I love it. What do you all think?

If the safety is part of the trigger mechanism, the tang button is usually connected to it with a paper clip of some sort (on bolt action rifles). It is a poor design.

The savage 99 has a different lockwork, and the tang safety actually does something.

I have seen some Mauser 98's that use a sliding tang safety to lock the sear. It is not as good as a bolt safety, but it is better than the trigger models.

If you want one added to a M700, call my good friend David Christman (318) 878-1395. It is one of his most favorite things to do [Wink] and really sets your M700 apart from the rest of the pack.
Just don't tell him you herd it from me.
