I just bought a winchester mod 97 16 gauge shotgun.the metal is perfect but someone has cut the bbl off at 16 inches.Does anyone know where I might find a new or used barrel?

Don't you just hate that! I know of a gunshop that chops old shotguns to make them sell for more money and faster. The cowboy shooters like their 97s short. It makes me wence! Try Gun Parts Corporation. I am not sure but the takedown gun may use a different barrel than the solid frame.

Not to "rain" on your purchase, but remove the barrel and put it in a location NO where near the receiver, unless you have the shotgun registred as a NFA weapon- the minimum legal length otherwise is 18".
You can add an extension to the barrel if you can't find a replacement.
