dpcdIf Savage designed and built it, it will work. Very intriguing.
What do they mean in the video: Providing Arms for 125 years? Savage was building 1861 Rifle Muskets for the Union Army.

To sell rifles.

dpcdSame reason any firm makes anything new; do we really need the body styles to change every three years on our cars and trucks? Of course not. Do we really need ANY new calibers for the past 5 decades now? No.
And since hunting rifles basically never wear out, companies need new products to stay in business.
Capitalism.

Recoil RobThe Mauser 96 is the Swede, what's that have to do with this?

Plus with the ever changing new models and dumping of the old, parts unavailability will make them obsolete long before wear does.
"Sorry can't get the parts, have you seen the new models?"

dpcdRich I thought you meant Mauser 1896!!! I never think of any Mauser developed after 1900.
Which would be ok too.
Just a note; those little locking balls on the Heym make me nervous. Of course I know they work; I just like to see big lugs on bolts.
I'll have to check this one out; since I won't carry a factory rifle into the field, I need to see the magazine and caliber options for custom barrels. Odd things. Not a 270.

richjHaving owned a few weird rifles (Blaser, mauser 660) these rifles interest me. My buddy still has the first gen Blaser R84
The SR30 Heym with the little ball bearings looks scary.
I remember a smith telling me he fixed a few Colt Sauer bolts with those retractable lug.

dpcdI just saw that they cost $1400. Not as interested now.....
I'm sure the lady Engineer in the video designed the bolt so it can't fire unless the little bearings are engaged. Otherwise it would be bad.

jeffeossointeresting -
though, I am used to thinking of an expensive savage being $499
I'd have one, in 308, for 299-399

I have 5 I brought at 200.00 close out from the wholesaler.

richjI always hear about these deals but never find them. My Savage 14 in walnut was about $700 in 2013.

So, you have one in 308? stainless or blue? $299?

BobsterI predict it will dig a big crater. Like that POS B Mag rifle. If you need fast follow-up shots get a BAR. Even an old Remmy 760/7600 would be better.
Recent Savage offerings have been a mixed bag.
