I had a case break off in the chamber of my rifle today and was wondering what was the best way to get the case unstuck. Only about 1/2" of the head came out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

International falls?......maybe I know ya.....anyway, I assume you have a bolt action rifle.....use a 50 cal cleaning brush from the chamberside and push foreward to engage the case...and then retract....it usually don't take much..... Then learn to not full length resize!!!

EDIT: Vapodog types faster than I do. There are a couple of ways to do this: First and best is, get a stuck case removal tool available from Brownell's and others. The second way is to spray a little penetrating oil into the chamber and wipe off any excess from inside the stuck case. If the case is 30.06 size, take a large brass/bronze bore brush (.50 caliber or so) on the end of a pistol cleaning rod and push into the case from the back tightly. Pull back slowly but firmly on the cleaning rod. Usually the brush will grab the inside of the case when the bristles try to reverse inside the case and it pulls the case right out. If it's a 223 sized case try a 357 diameter bore brush. [ 11-15-2003, 00:15: Message edited by: Fjold ]

I was reading another forum today about this same subject. They mentioned packing the case in the chamber with dry ice and the case will literally fall out.Another method mentioned was to push a bullet into the case from the chamber end and secure it with either solder or epoxy. Let it dry, then push the case out from the barrel end with a cleaning rod.

I've used a bronze bore brush for a shotgun before... Like the others said, force it intot he chamber, then pull it out. It should pull out the case, too. And find out WHY the case seperated!
