I had this rifle built on a very tight budget.

It is a .375 H&H. It has a Brazillian Mauser action, vector barrel (with quite a heavy profile). The stock is of American oak according to the smith. But it is time to do a few cosmetic upgrades.

What would you add to it? (Still keeping a tight budget in mind.)

I was thinking.......
1. Barrel band.
2. Replace the express sight with a pop up peep.
3. Quick release scope mounts.
4. ....... http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k152/Poer_bullet/3752.jpg

YEP!!

first the barrel band.. ask a smith who blues if he can blue it BEFORE you put it on. Then, get it red hot, with a pair of pliers slide it down the barrel, use a wood dowel, tap it into place, than and put a DAMAP (not wet) rag around it to cool. It will clamp like no one's business!!!

then the qd rings...

I wouldn't bother replacing the sights, though

Also consider a bolt handle. Although functional, the forged handles always look too large for my taste.

I would get the QD Mounts first and then install the barrel band. Next I would have a two or three possition safety installed. Then I would have the grip shortented and checkering added.

I would not change out the sights.

Which Brazilian action was used? 1908 or 1935. If it was 1908 I might also want to have the action checked for lug setback after firing a few rounds of .375, or at least know the feel from ejecting a fired round. If it starts to get a bit more difficult to eject you might want to look into it.

I also would be curious as to how it was made to fit the .375. Where was the metal removed and what was done to the box.
