I built a nice inexpensive build for an AR15 A4 but their trigger not the best.

I took them to the office and did a high polish job on the trigger catch. Is there anything else you can do to improve the trigger group short of putting money out on an expensive trigger?
I can get inch and smaller with some of the loads but the creep/drag is horrible. Polished the contact areas and it seems to feel smother but yet to shoot the rifle.

What load shoots best in your AR in 5.56?

American Eagle 55gr in the commercial 193 from LC seems to be the best for me but hoping the polishing can get more loads in under an inch. I appear to be dragging left on some of the loads.

Thanks,

Jim

I have had good luck with an enhanced hammer/trigger set from Bravo Co. Machine. It is smooth and about 4.6 lbs. Last one I bought was about $55. There are also spring kits out there that help, I use the lighter trigger spring, but leave the stock hammer spring for reliable ignition.

Remove the upper and observe sear/hammer movement while pulling the trigger. Guard that the hammer does not trip and snap forward. If the sear is pushing the hammer back you will get a creepy pull. You must stone the sear to a flatter angle so it slides rather than a push and slide.

There is a trick to put a short set screw in the pistol grip screw hole. you run it up to take out some of the take-up/creep. So a shearch on it for better detail. It worked pretty well on a couple of mine.

Here's one option. Never used one myself, I use the Geissele SSA-E in all my lowers.

AR15 "kit" triggers are decent at best but most AR15 rifles bennifit from a trigger upgrade entirety

A spring kit or a complete drop in unit

It's better to shoot for the moon and hit the fencepost than to shoot for the fencepost and hit the ground!

Thanks a lot. Any more suggestions?

If you use JoeBob's then you will have to completely drill and tap the hole for the screw correct? I have an old tap kit anyone have the drill and tap size and thread? All my econo ar has it a hole 90 percent drill except for the middle.

I have to go work cows this weekend so I plan to take the ar4 up and see what it does. I put it back together after polishing the sear surfaces and it feels a lot smoother after polishing but you still have the travel. I really like this AR even though it was 299$ and free shipping and no taxes. Just needed an Anderson Receiver or 80% to complete the build.

I built it as a hog hunting gun since a friend has 13000 acres of ranches the hill country and seems to raise a lot more hogs than a man can shoot with a bolt action. Smiler

Does any one have a really good AR load that will work well on hogs. He has tons of regular hogs on all the ranches and some fair sized Russians and part Russians on some areas. My best was 325+ lbs and two 7mm-08 Hornaday 139 loads did not go thru and thru at 100 yards+ spaced 4-5 inches apart but it was in the shoulder.

Thanks again. Jim

The ones I did were drilled and threaded all the way through. They are 1/4 -28 thread.

I've found that just about everything out of a 223 works on killing hogs but if you want to get particular this year we used some Nosler Bonded Solid Base protected point bullets that are 64 grains on several whitetails and they worked great and I think hogs wouldn't know the difference.
Upper amounts of TAC powder worked great with this bullet, accurate and several one shot kills that dropped on the spot.
Also you can buy a 10$ spring kit that Ted mentioned above that really helps improve triggers on AR's although the real deal is a new drop in trigger.

here is something that makes it feel better. get KNS pins that do not rotate. polish the pins where the trigger and hammer ride before you install them

Let me ask since I am very new to AR's is there a good site that does a better definition of pieces and parts interactions that people are discussing?

I have had and worked on guns since I got my first old Stevens 410 for my 7th birthday.
I still have original 1982 Chet Brown fiberglass 700 stocks. This is a new toy.

With "cheaper than dirt" individual utubes anyone can put a lower together in 30 minutes or less with little knowledge of the rifle.

Where is there a good site to learn about the AR action and the different parts? I need a better understanding of the different parts mentioned so I can work on them?

I looked and the Billy Bob access will have to be drilled into the receiver since the hole does not go thru.
