I looked in the Midway USA catalog for the few companies that showed listing for Colt Sauer bases. The catalog shows that Talley sells a 2 piece base that has a different part number than the base for the Remington 700. The Weaver chart in the same catalog shows a difference as well. So I would say that the 700 bases probably dont interchange, but you can find bases designed for the Colt Sauer. Hope this helps.

Redfield use to make bases for the Colt Sauer and J.P. Sauer

I checked Midway's website (www.midwayusa.com) and see that the Talley mounts for the Colt Sauer are shown as a 30 day special order item (#566-376), but it looks like they had multiple kinds of Weavers in stock. If I recall correctly, the distance between the rings on a Colt Sauer will be quite long, and it could require a long scope or extension rings.

I own 2 Colt Sauers and they wear Redfield bases and rings. (If I had to do again I would put Talleys on)
They are both long actions, no extensions.

Now the replies start! I would have looked the stuff up on Midway but our proxy here at work blocks most external websites and I haven't had a chance to look it up at the house.

Here's the situation, my father just bought a Colt Sauer Grand Alaskan in 458 Win Mag. in excellent condition from a guy who was basically trying to give him the gun for free. Long story short, he convinced the guy to let him pay for it and now he owns a Colt Sauer in 458 WM. Problem is he has no mounts or scope on the gun. He's actually thinking about getting a pivot mount type setup like the Weaver pivot mounts but the Weaver pivot setup doesn't appear to be compatible. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

The Colt Sauer is the same gun as the Sauer 90 and bases are interchangeable. If I recall it is also the same base as the Sauer 200 and 202. There are lots of options for those rifles but these are higher end guns and some are pricey like the EAW though very good. I think Conetrol makes a set too as should Warne.

Yes, Conetrol makes mounts for the Colt\Sauer. I just bought some for my long action this spring.

My original mounts and rings are for sale if you're interested? They're Redfield.
