| Besides AR 15's and M1-A's the FN Patrol and Sniper 308 Bolt rifles had hard chromed bbls. The FN rifle was on the Winchester action. Properly done Hard Chrome greatly extends the life of a bbl.

| I have one of the Special Police Rifles from FN. It does have a chromed barrel. It shoots nicely but does not have much in the way of personality. Have not fired it in two years. |

| No MG's here! Been pondering having my Sako rebarreled...Its a blued action, and I would like something to match it, but would also like something with the rust resistance of stainless....It struck me a chrome lined barrel may be the best of both worlds, plus increased wear resistance too... |

| Pete, Try Melonite if available to you. I normally use my BR barrels 700-1000 rounds. My melonite treated barrels have about 2800 rounds on them. It is also a blue black finish. Polish your barrel and it will look like a polished blued barrel or beadblast it first. Do a search on Melonite. Butch |

| Butch-
You and I posted at the same time, so I just saw you reccomend Melonite. I am thinking of getting a SS rifle barrel, plus an entire P7 pistol Melonited. How would it wear in the hunting field for the rifle and for daily carry with the pistol?
I know some folks who had their pistols Melonited, but they have only had them back for a few weeks-not nearly long enough to see how they hold up.
I talked to a "Meloniter" a couple of weeks ago about the rifle and he said it would not work on the titanium reciever, but would be just fine on the 416 SS barrel. I really like the way it looks in the pictures |

| Marc, Some of the pistol manufacturers are using it on slides at this time. It is very slick and has a surface hardness of approx 70 Rockwell C. It needs to be done after all machine work is done. I checked a test piece and the hardness was .008 deep. It does both the inside and outside. It is not supposed to change any dimensions. My 6PPC barrel measured .2369 both before and after with my Deltronic pins. I had to increase my powder charge slightly to gain back velocity. Ed Shilen looked at it the other day when he was here and said it looked like about 50 rounds were on it and no alligator in the leade and throat area. This was with a borescope of course. I can email a pic of the barrel. Butch |

| Can't bores of a rifle be " Hard Chromed " ?. My AR's are . Much easier to clean and less wear . Some one around has the ability to do it I'm sure . It's after the fact , I suspect it does change the dimensions but dam little . I have only purchased weapons with it , never have looked to having it done . I will how ever consult my local machine Shop Guru if it can be done they know who can do it . They're no ordinary machine shop !. Shoot Straight Know Your target . ... |
