I am in the process of rebarreling a Savage left hand rifle to 416 Taylor. I will be buying a new Savage in a belted magnum. My questions are as follows: 1. Is there anyone here that has done this? 2. If so, did you install a throughbolt in the stock? 3. How would/did you arrange a second recoil lug? 4. Which caliber of belted magnum would/did you use, and why? I bought the barrel/dies from midway, and will be aquiring the rifle next, as the funds permit. Thanks for the help. Good luck and good shooting, Eterry

Haven't done one myself, but am kicking it around, I would contact "SharpShooters" and talk to them. Savage is their ball game, I would think since the Taylor is designed around the 06 action lenght, either the 300win or 7mm mag would be the way to go, unless you could find a super deal, on their African model in 338 or 458, then at lest you would pick up their sue-do CRF action, Hell skip that last you said LEFT HAND

Hi Eterry: I just rebarreled a left handed 300 Win. that I found in great shape at a pawn shop (damn the lefties are hard to locate, esp. the mags). I suppose any medium length mag action would work without alteration. It had a wood stock and I wanted a good, solid left handed synthetic to make it heavier(I hoped anyway). I ordered a Stockade thumbhole stock from Lock,Stock and Barrel, added a 2.5x8 Var. X III, and love the results. I haven't felt the need to add anything like crossbolts or a second lug, but will glass bed it before shooting it much longer. Hope yours turns out as good.

I'm sorry I didn't notice the reference to left hand; mine is right. I'll send the pics tonight.
