Sako front sight hood too soft.
I'm doing some cosmetics on a L461 and bought a sight hood off of E___ for like $35.00
It's way too soft with no spring tension. Can it be saved with heat and a quench without killing the bluing or some other save? Any help much appreciated.

If it is in fact made of spring steel, yes .. but no way will the blueing survive the required temperature. Hard to imagine how it got soft in the first place .. and retained its blueing. There has to be more to this story.

Thanks for chiming in Russ.

Ah, I'll just use it as is. It's going to be a safe queen anyway. Possibly un-fired since it left the factory in'66. Just tried another squeeze and it is better.

There is a good reason 99% of the rifles that come with them from the factory.

Do not have them on any more.

They are useless for the most part.

And get lost.

Its nice to have them if you intend to sell them at some point for reasons I don't understand as the are worthless IMO also...

Ray,
My thoughts exactly. I may just sell it or trade it eventually. I have one more Sako (clip feed model 46) that has a heavy barrel that I can use for varmints if I ever hunt them.

Not worth any more effort or expense. Never treated any springs. Bent a couple. Broke one. Thanks anyway.
