I believe they are Large Ring actions turned down to Small Ring specs. The barrel is still large ring, so they only chambered it for the .308 and .243 short cartridges to avoid any "problems."
In the mid 1960's we made several custom light weight rifles using these actions. I haven't seen any of these actions since then. The action had only about 4 threads. I would like to see someone post a picture of these rare actions.

so what is the concensus? ARe these actions strong enough for modern loads? Are they really small ring large thread with only 4 threads? Are they alloy steel actions? Are they medium length like the Mexicans, or long actions?
Some .243 and .308 rounds are pretty hot-if they hold up to this, then it would look like they are pretty strong.

These actions were an odd size receiver. It appeared to be a standard length ground down to a smaller dia. receiver ring. It was large thread and the action walls were thin over the front area. We made several 25 Souper's, 22/250, 243, and 7 X 57. I barreled the actions over 40 years ago. They had the standard Brn trigger guard as the other models of Browning's with a block in the magazine area. I believe that Brn changed to the Sako action at that time. The actions were probably the same metal as the standard FN of that time period.
