I have a savage model 99 in 303 savage. It is a saddle ring carbine and every thing else abut it is very good. I would like to know if the barrel could be relined as I would like to keep the barrel like it is. It is a shooter not a collectable.

Right; we don't reline high pressure cartridges. That is for 22s, black powder cartridge, and pistol cartridges. If you really have to keep the original barrel, it could be rebored to a wildcat 33 Savage or maybe 35. Lots of drama involved in that.

I have a Sav 99 that was a 26" .303
It was relined and is now a 25/35 imp.
The fellow that lined it, turned a barrel blank with steps that reduced dia. towards the muzzle.
I know he did the same with a Brno 602 that was a .458, the chamber was ruined making it into a 458 Lott. He put a new " liner" in it as he claimed it was easyer then making a new barrel to match the original. I know he did others, but don't know the owners of them, but no troubles with mine at all.
But, before you ask, the fellow who did them died a year ago.

Ive seen a lot of relined hi power barrels in old Winchester rifles..basically cut out all the metal but the top skin and stick another barrel inside it..I think Norman Johnson at High Plains Reboring and rifleling might do it..if not try Dennis Olson, Plains Mt. he probably has someone that will do that..

For all that work you could fit a new barrel. I see no reason to do it.

If it's a shooter, just install a new barrel. Most of those Mickey Mouse jobs end up costing more than a straightforward rebarrel job and shoot worse than a simple rebarrel.

Personally, I would install a stainless barrel of a slightly larger contour, knock it off at 20 inches, bead blast it grey and go worry the deer population.

When I was a kid. I had the stick. I had the rock. And I had the mud puddle. I am as adept with them today, as I was back then. Lets see today's kids say that about their IPods, IPads and XBoxes in 45 years!
