Browning A-bolt Hunter or Rugar 77. I had a Rugar .243 that shot great then went to heck couldn't ever get it to shoot again (a fluke)

I'd say it's a toss up. However if the question is which do I want for a hunting rifle, it's the A-Bolt every time.

I have to go with the ruger. I currently have a 77mkii in 223(not the varmint model and no modifications) that will routinely shoot 100 yd 5 shot groups that measure .4" or less. And that is using factory loaded hornady 55gr v-max. I have an a-bolt boss in 300 win mag. The best groups I get are 1.5" using handloads. This is after extensive load development and toying with the boss. Who knows, maybe I just got a lemon.

What duikerman said! For a hunting rig, the A-bolt is great.

Abolts typically shoot much better than a Ruger from my experiences and from also looking at others at the range. Reloader

Easy answer: Savage The Accu-trigger is super easy to adjust, and the accuracy straight out of the box is amazing. And, as an added bonus, they are butt ugly (the only downside). Garrett

Well I couldn't resist going to the range again this afternoon (very nice day) I tried the rifles again with a luppy 3x9 and with the same results. Then I shot my old BAR LWT carbine in 06. The first 3 shots went 6/8 I then proceded to shoot a small coke bottle at 200 and a oil can at 300. I haven't touched the rifle since last Dec. I haven't shot my old blr81 since 2004. the first 3 shots went in a ragged hole at 100 yds. I was hoping you guys would say something good about the A-bolt. I'm Going to Denny Dennis hardware (Fenton ,Mo) Friday at 2pm.and send them off. If you are in the area drop in and see me I have a tattoo of a bear on my right forearm. I know these rifles are good but cursed. I guess I should not have left that voo doo queen in New Orleans back in 61 ! I've had streakes of bad luck every since.
