I really like the plain vanilla style used on pre '64 M70's, simple, functional and they seem to have that classic look to them. I've used them on a half dozen or so stocks over the years.

I like this one! clap
Only problem with this one is that it is on a 4 Bore!
It is the promise of excruciating pain! Eeker

The GAG site has some pretty good pictures of examples of the various types:
GAG buttplates.

They show Neider, Winchester, skeleton, etc.

Looks like the ones that Neidner used to make. New Neidners are castings.

I really like this one, but prefer not to have a casting. Where do I get that?

Stumble across one. Might be tough to find an old Neidner.

Sunnyhill makes one.

This is the photo from their Website

Also there is supposed to be one from MacFarland that I've never seen. Maybe someone else can fill you in on that one.

The Neidner style plate that came on a stock from Midway was probably a stamping, but nicely done, it had sharp attractive checkering and was well laid out. Very deep curve in the plate face would have been fun to match if the stock hadn't already been laid out for it.

I've also used the Treebone Carving, Winchester style plate sold by Brownell's:

It's a cast plate that needs a bit of work to finish properly, but worked OK on the stock I was playing around with.

I have not been impressed with the ones that brownells and Midway sell. Beisen sells one. I just bought two on e-bay that the seller claims are original neidners, I'll find out when they arrive.

What search did you use to find those on eBay?

Oh every few days I'll search in the hunting catagory using certain key words such as Neidner, Howe, Hoffman, sedgley, lyman, etc. You never know what you'll find. A few weeks ago a friend of mine bought an old screwdriver with A.O. Neidner stamped into the handle.

I will keep an eye out for one, but I am getting close to needing it.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

So I like this general style, but I really like the looks of both a plain grip can and buttplate (i.e. no checkering). It seems this is impossible to find also???? Any help????

Why??? If your going to use this rifle - make it functional. That non checkered buttplate will be extremely slick.
