I see on all these fine rifles integral scope base/bridges. Although they look fantastic does anyone make a screw attached "bridge" that forms to the rear bridge and front ring for us that can't afford to have our guns rebuilt from scratch? I just saw a Smithson bridge and scope ring system with a peep attachment that looked fantastic but looked too expensive for my workin' mans wallet. Any bolt on bridges out there rather than forged on?

What kind of action are you planning to use these on? I know a guy that does custom bases for Winchester and Remington that don't need to be "fitted" to your the action. These are blued and less than $100. He also does Mauser's too, but these have to be custom fitted and are about 3X$$$. Here is a set for a Winchester M-70. I'm putting them on a Win M70 Classic in 375 H&H Mag. The gun is Stainless but the bases wouldn't matter as I am sending it off to get a Ceramakote on it. The picture you show looks like what I'm after, does he have these readily available? Can I get his contact info? Thanks Snellstrom@pcisys.net

Mark Stratton makes screw-on bases that look like integral bases, but they are fitted to the receiver. The advantage is that he machines the ring mount dovetails "on the gun" so that they are true to the bore regardless of how accurately the receiver was drilled and tapped.

Terry- Refresh my memory; who did those bases for you? May the wind be in your face and the sun at your back. P. Mark Stark

Michael Scherz did them. Mark Stratton has done a set for me also, but I don't think Mark will sell his outright. They come fitted. Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Sometimes the factories aren't as good as they could be, holes are out of aligment and the difference in heigth between the front ring and rear bridge differs. I machine the bases on the receiver so I know the base elevation and the dovetails are in the proper position. I can sell a set of bases in a plastic bag and hope they fit, sometimes they might. I just don't want to deal with the ones that don't fit.

Mark made a set for me for a pre-war M70 on which someone had misdrilled the rear bridge. I mounted Talley rings and a new Leupold scope on the rifle and shot it with factory ammo. The center of the group was less than 3/4" from POA. By far the quickest rifle/scope to get sighted in I've ever had.
