Razzer I would like to take the sniper barrel off my Jap 7.7 and mate it with the Remington 700 bolt action and chamber it a bit longer to accept the full length 30/06 case. The barrel has been checked out and was in excellent shape.(must have been made from American steel in 1940 or so) Any suggestions of who could build this?

One might have to make a threaded sleeve for the barrel thread such that it'll fit the Remington action but it can be done. Any creative smith can do it with a good lathe but please be adfvised that the cost may be very high....added costs might be incurred.....threaded sleeve....$75, custom chambering reamer $150,...custom dies....$200 normal smithing charges.....$200....rebluing...$75
costs are rough estimates as they vary a lot.....but if I did it (and I'm not for hire) I'd quote the job at $700 and six months delivery and absolutely no warranty on accuracy.

312 bullets are not exactly plentiful or popular and all in all in the end you're not going to be happy with this move.......I'd very strongly recommend against it.

Spend some money on a good synthetic sniper style stock and it will turn your jap into something to behold and it will set you back much less and you will enjoy it sooner.

WinkThe stock exchange sounds like the way to go. This old war horse has already made a few people at the range mad as it is. It is pretty accurate the way it is. The barrel has been ported, stock cut down, barrel floated and a 3 x 9 scope mounted on it. I am going to reload for accuracy and leave it alone except maybe for the stock. After out shooting a new Remington SS 300 WSM the owner was really pissed!
