Brevex action, PacNor barrel, shop-made barrel band rear sight base/recoil lug, sling stud & front sight, Dressel grip cap, Dakota safety, Turkish blank from Chiron, ebony tip, lettering by Rick Simmons of Kingwood, TX. Sorry the pics aren't better, they don't do justice, look curved & distorted which is not the case:

fla3006No, a friend/machinest/part timer did most.

bwanamrmImpressive Forrest... very nice in an excellent big bore caliber!
On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Duane WiebeNice job all around! JNim Carmichel told me that the Brevex could not be single loaded (drop one in the chamber and close bolt) Will yours?

What load will you be using?

fla3006Thanks for the compliments fellows, I relayed them to the gunmaker (who must remain anonymous until he completes my other projects) and he was most flattered by the kind remarks of knowlegeable shooters on AR and particularly those of premier makers like Duane Wiebe and Steven Dodd Hughes. (D.W.- the Brevex must be loaded from the magazine and is also a pesky H-ring)
Last couple of days I've been in the country test driving this beast. Before I restocked & rebarreled, it was a similar 510 Wells with a longer, heavier braked barrel. I don't recall it being quite so ferocious but it definitely is now. I'm still out of town so don't remember my exact loads but they are 535 cast lead, 570 Woodleigh & 647 milsurp, all at about 2200. These are below maximum but are above my comfort threshold and I have no desire to try faster loads with bullets this heavy. The cast loads aren't so bad but I'll be keeping my others under 2200. Hats off to you guys with the 550s & 600s or the souped up 470s and other big 50s.
Also had a couple emails about the engraver, website is
www.exhibitionengraver.com. Great work, fast turnaround, get a firm quote upfront.

are you planning to have more engraving done to the rifle in the future?

jeffeossoForrest,
I recall the longer and braked barrel .. it made a HUGE impression on me for being mild to shoot ..

fla3006Kevin, no I won't have any engraving done, he did the lettering on the barrel. He is a world class engraver though if you need anything.
Jeffe, yeah I think the brake may have made a difference. This thing now reminds me of the time you sucker punched me with your "plinking load"

Do I get this correctly? When empty, you have to turn gun upside down, open floorplate and drop them in?

No, cartridges have to be pushed into the chamber from below the rails so the extractor catches the rim, the extractor will not snap over the rim if the cartridge is loose and pushed into the chamber from above the rails, like most Mausers.

tiggertateI wish you'd get the rest of that sub-par, overcharged work done by Christmas so I can get in line

.
I ewmwmbwe (edited: I was channeling a Hottentot when I tried to type "remember") the original well and the transformation is wonderful. Nice gun, Forrest and worth the wait, after all!
