I just picked up what looks to be a sweet litle Mauser but cannot find any info on it. The rifle is still at the shop awaiting govt transfer but I scribbled down what I could about it. The action appears to be standard M98 Mauser with thumb cut but with no external markings on it. On top of the barrel just at the receiver ring (and mostly covered by the scope) I can make out Walther in typical Walther lettering with what looks like "Ulm????" that I just cannot make out due to the scope. The barrel appears to be 24" (likely 60 cm) of light contour that is in the style of the Win M70 Featherweight in contour at the receiver. It is also marked 7x57 (yippee!) and the bore is in fine shape. It has a small island in which the rear sight with a fixed blade and 2 folding leafs is dovetailed. The front sling swivel is attached to the barrel via a small pad (not a band). The floorplate is not hinged. The rifle has two safeties one being a short three position (I believe but it interferes with the scope) wing moving from the left to the right. The other safety is a push button passing fully through the stock in fromt of the pistol grip apparently passing though the trigger. The trigger feels like the standard 2 stage but very light and crisp at let off. The stock is straight grained walnut with the comb dropping off with a slight hump (as the current CZ's do but not as severe) towards the butt, is finely checkered in a three point pattern with a deep and wide angled border. It is scoped with one of the old B&L fixed reticle 4X's in the bridge style adjustable mount with the little wing-style adjusting nut (elevation I believe). The SN is 32XX. Overall condition is very, very good with no real dings in the wood and beautiful mirror blue that reminds me of that on the early Colt Pythons. I gave $500 for it as I have been looking for a nice 7x57. I would really like to find out more about it. Thanks in advance.

The second safety is one of the Greener-style stalking safeties - pretty cool.

As far as price I am sure some will say too much, however for a rifle in nice shape with features you are describing I would pay that in a second.
