Hello fella's , I have never had a custom rifle built before. And am having quite a time finding a gunsmith close to me. I visited with a man the other day who seemed shur smart enough to do the job, but he didn't have any gun's he had built to show me. I just want to make sure the gunsmith I choose does a good job. I don't want anything fancey built, cz action, lilja octogon barrel, pillar bedded, laminated stock, iron sight's, drilled and tapped, trigger, 340 weatherby. Can anybody give me any lead's on a good gunsmith who know's what he's doing and is also in the north-east kansas area.

Maybe this is bad, but I haven't found one I liked in Kansas City as well as I did in other places. Fred at Denny's guns is a good repair smith, but doesn't do complete custom, as far as I know. He takes a looooong time since he is so busy as well. I have used Simmons, and again, they do very nice work, but I thought they were over priced for the same, or lesser quality I got from others.

There are several posters on this board that I would not be afraid to send anything to for high quality work. I have used Hill Country Rifles for several with complete satisfaction, as well as Mark Skaggs, and Montana Rifle Company. My current project is in the hands of Randy Selby.

And there are certainly others.

Thank you Larrys, I really wanted to find a gunsmith who was fairley close to me. That way I could keep better tab's on thing's. Sound's like that might not be a option. I will check out those link's you posted. I found a man who own's a gunsmith shop not to far from me but he doesan't have any of his gun work for me to look at. He is one hell of a knife maker though. He had some beautiful knife's for me to look at and they were definatley made by a perfectionist. They were so nice I wouldn't even pick them up!!! Here is his link, have you heard of him?

maxbear, I have not heard of him, but it could be promising. If ElCaballero knows one, I would go with it.

I would think that the greater Kansas City area would have several smiths willing and able to do this work. Or you could go to Ace Hardware and buy a hack- Smilersaw.
