Guys, How is the front sight usually attached to the barrel on a M70 SS classic? Just received a used one that appears to have a stock front sight, but it is lifting at the front end. Is this typical? How is it best to handle this kind of problem? thanks, Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ... My only experience is w/ the Safari models. They have Williams' streamline bases that are held by two screws. One is visible towards the rear of the base and the second is in the dovetail under the sight blade. Gary

The Classic has the Williams Streamlined base also. When I replaced the front bead on mine, I also used a bottoming tap to cut the screw threads deeper and use longer screws, which I also loctited in.

Gary, That's exactly how mine is built! It came off when the rear screw was removed. Now I have to make a sight pusher to separate the blade from the ramp. Then the ramp needs some cleanup and reblueing. Thanks for the lead! Mike -------------- DRSS, Womper's Club, NRA Life Member/Charter Member NRA Golden Eagles ...
