I have a cosmetically screwed up stock with plastic diamonds inlayed in the stock. I am about to camo paint it but before I do I would like to know the best method to prep the wood stock. I am not concerned about the cosmetics, but instead the best sealing and protection of the wood. I was considering coating it with a light coat of fiberglas resin and then painting it with an enamel. Is this over kill? Should I just go ahead and paint it with a good quality exterior enamel and skip the resin? I don't want to use a wood primer unless I need to. I wanted the enamel to soak in as far as possible if I didn't use a resin base coat. Any recommendations? RELOAD - ITS FUN!

I don't paint this stuff myself, but, unless you're painting it for an art project, hit it with some sand paper, wipe it clean with a wet rag and thinner, hang it up with a coat hanger and start spraying. Rustoleum seems to work well on those I've seen come through this shop. As a matter of fact, got one here right now sprayed to resemble the new digital Marine Corps cammo. Good looking! Send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you a photo of it.
