Hi All
I want a 9.3x64 and l'm considering getting a near new CZ550 in 9.3x62 as a donor. Can anyone tell me if this has successfully been done before and what involved?

Alternatively l have the option of buying a modified m98 built 9.3x64 but l am worried about ending up with a roughly built rifle that has issues.
George.

Don't know about the cz but many 9.3x62 have been rechambered to the 9.3x64. Open the bolt face, rechamber and MAYBE a touch of feed rail work. I would bet a coffee it would work with feed rail work. Is the magazine box long enough? I believe the 9.3x64 is around 3.37.

As usual just my $.02

I'm leaning toward modifying the CZ 550 in 9.3x62 and I just wanted to now if others had done this particular conversion as it seems fairly easy for a gunsmith. I have a ZKK 600 in .30/06 and its mag box seems fine in the length but the pressed in shoulders could ideally be further forward. I have no idea if the CZ 550 magazines are similar in construction to a ZKK 600 though.

Instead of 9.3x64 try the 9.3x66 or as Federal calls it the 370 Sako Magnum. 06 style cartridge just 3mm longer. No bolt face work. Gives great performance in a standard length action.Just A thought.

I've already secured enough RWS cases to make the conversion worthwhile (160 cases). Besides the x66 isn't a big enough increase over the x62.

Loaded to the same OAL and pressure the 9.3x62 gives up very little to the 370. Yes you would need to cut your throat longer.

I have decided to go with a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 as my starting point.
Does anyone who has one of the have a measurement of the magazine box length?
Cheers
George

gk

The 62 can do everything the 64 can, it's no lightweight even with the 320gn bullet.

I'm not interested in a 9.3x62 as I believe it is range limited. I have a light carbine in 9x57 and I use that for shooting up to 200m and I now what a decent step up from that.

As I recall the cz 9,3 magazine was '06 length. Don't have one on hand to measure for you.

The 9,3x64 cartridges will fit into the CZ box. If you wanted a little more room the box is just stamped out of sheet metal. I bet Mike could pound one out in his shop pretty quick, chop, chop.
