green mountain has 17", 308 cal, 1:10 twist bull barrels on sale for 35 bucks. not chambered, contoured, or crowned...just a cylinder with a hole in it. has anyone used one of these for a project and if so, how are they quality wise?
thanks

not familiar with that barrel, but if you 're buying a plain blank, be prepared to spend some money getting it contoured. 35 might not end up so cheap afterall
I've read a couple reports where guys that built 300 whisper/BLK with these barrels on AR platforms were pleased with the performance. I've seriously considered building a 300BLK upper with these barrels but the recent run on AR components set my schedule back.
If you are doing the work yourself, you can't hardly go wrong for that price. If you are paying someone else, I might be inclined to invest in a more known commodity.
I have used many GM barrels; both muzzle loading and BP cartridge. They are good barrels. If you have ever used an Adams and Bennett from Midway, chances are 50-50 it was from GM. The reason they are cheap is that they are only 17 inches long. I always assume people can do their own contouring. If not, they should not get basic blanks.
