Am I correct in thinking that I can just cut the shoulder back the recoil lug thickness and set the headspace?

I realize the bolt recess is larger on the MK V, but don't see how that matters.

Am I missing anything here?

Yes but the bolt nose recess on a 700 is important in it's ID for the "three rings of steel" design to work. Having seen them blown up, it does work. If you don't care about that feature, then it doesn't matter.

That is what I thought, but wanted to check.
