Hello,
Have You found it possible to use 160-175 grainers without seating them deeply?
Anyone got rid of the mag spacer, installed a long follower and seat the bullets near the lands? Is the freebore excessive?

Thanks for Your input.

jth - I don't own a Mod 70 in 7mm Rem but we do have several 300's, 338's and a 340 Wby in the Mod 70. Knocking out the spacer and installing the long follower is the best way to improve the performance your rifle. We have six different Mod 70 300 Win mag's from various years of manufacture and every single one of them have the same length throat.
I believe you are asking if you can reach the lands with the bullets and still function through the magazine? In all of our rifles we have been able to reach the lands with the bullet and still function through the magazine box. The 340 Wby is the only exception as it was re-chambered with the Weatherby "long-throat". We have found the maximum length of the Win Model 70 magazine box to be 3.610".
Hope this helps.

Thanks Guy!
Just what I needed to hear, I want full grip on the bullet and as much volume as possible to get low pressure.
I need to check if my smith has the parts or if I should contact Brownells.

I know i should check the bedding and trigger as well, but i dont know what level of accuracy I can expect.
The scope I plan to put on it is a swar 3-12x56 (I know - should change to a leupold for lower mounting, but the swar is the one i have)

Thanks again

jth - check the classified section here and look for the post from D'Arcy Echols about Winchester Model 70 parts for sale. He may have the parts that you are looking for a little cheaper than other places. I purchased a new stock and some followers from him last week. I'm sure your 7 mag will shoot good. Take care.
