I've been trying to remove a broken case from a Rem 721 300 H&H. I tried a bore brush first, then a tap on a T-handle and finally cerrosafe and nothing has worked. After I melt the cerrosafe in and let it cool it will not come out with or without the case, I have to melt it out. I'm about ready to take the barrel off. Does anybody have any other suggestions ? thanks

I would put the action in the freezer over night. The cold will shrink the brass a bit and it may loosen up enough to remove with the brush.

I've seen my gunsmith use canned air (for cleaning computers). Holding the can upside down he sprays it into the chamber and quickly pop the case out with an over caliber brush.

The brass cools down quicker than the steel and it loosens right up.

Place a snug fitting patch in the throat area. On a room temperature barrel, pour the cerrosafe. Set down the torch and funnel, turn the gun around in the vise and with a 1 piece rod, drive the brass out. You don't need to let the cerrosafe cool too much. If that won't remove it, you have problems.

You need to pour the cerrosafe beyond the neck of the case. I usually plug the bore 1/2 inch beyond the neck. Never had a case that wouldn't come out this way that wasn't jammed up with other stuff, like fishing poles, broken dowels etc. Give it another try.

One of the concerns I have with this is that I know nothing of how this case became stuck. It may have been in there for a long time for all I know. I tried the cerrosafe 3 times, and not once could I knock it back out, the last time i did it I plugged it about right at the case mouth, I figured that at least I would knock the cerrosafe out of the case but it wouldn't budge. I've never had to use cerrosafe to get one out before so I just thought I was doing something wrong, now I'm beginning to think there is more to this. Before I got this project it had been soaking for several days with Kroil. I'm going to try one more time then take the barrel off, and then who knows what. I was a bit smug when I got this thing but it is kicking my ass!

Thanks Westpac! i just got the POS out, I guess I was waiting too long before trying to knock it out. I was waiting 30 minutes like the instructions said but wasn't working. Any way thanks again.

Well congrats on getting it out!

Does the case look like something made it physically stuck, or was it just being stubborn?

for every hour in front of the computer you should have 3 hours outside

I'm actually a little disapointed to see nothing that would make this case any harder to remove than any other stuck case.
