Hey guys, I was wondering. I know that dry firing a gun is bad for it. When I get done shooting my single shot ruger I don't like to leave it under tension though so go ahead and pull the trigger over an empty chamber. should I keep a snap cap in it to prevent this from being a dry fire? Thanks all. Red

Red, I have a #3 in 45-70 too. They are awesome guns. All you need to do is: -start with action open and chamber empty -hold lever with one hand -pull the trigger and hold it back -close the lever (hang on to it so it doesn't snap shut) -release the trigger This lowers the hammer with no damage to the firing pin - John
