I have my eye on a mod 1950 which has double set triggers and factory claw mount bases but no mounts to go with it.

a) Is a conversion to a single trigger going to be a possibility - ie are the single triggers easy to come by?

b) What about the mounts to fit the bases? Are blank ones available which my custom gunsmith can fit? Can someone please post some close up shots of factory claw mount bases?

Thanks in advance.

i doubt switching to a single trigger would be cheap/ probably the $500+ range.

try these guys to find rings for your mounts...

I would hate to see the double triggers changed, but to each his own.

In the US, fitting rings to existiing claw bases usually STARTS at $600 + the cost of the scope.

So if you buy this rifle, I would be prepared to spend an extra $1000US to get it in the form you are asking about. Maybe it is a good deal for you, maybe not. Depends on asking price and how bad you want it.

If you want a single trigger, you would probably have no trouble trading your DST for one. Just post it on every possible forum and auction site, someone will bite.

Make sure they have the single trigger (1952 and later) that fits inside a shotgun bow, as they are the interchangeable ones. The ones that fit inside the small guard are not interchangeable.

You can contact Mark Cromwell at NECG about claw rings. As stated above, they run about $600 a set, installed.

Looks like the claw mouont question was passed up. There are basically two dimensions used and it is the gap berween the front "claws" "generic" rings shold not be pursued. Bases with matching ring dimensions are available and you might as well replace the whole shootin match and be money ahead. Claw mounts must be hand fitted carefully! Such a job starts around $800.00 and easily goes to $1500.00 In my opinion, the Suhler claw mounts have proven themselves for well over a hundred years...they're not cheap, but properly fitted will have repeatable zero for the next 100 years
The come off in an instant and ditto for reattaching...some of the less expensive varities of "QD" mounts...well, you better call a "time out" if come hippogator is about to insult your manhood

Being a "less expensive" kind of guy, that is exactly why, at least so far, all of my "QDs" require an Allen wrench! Big Grin The only good hippogator is a dead hippogator. thumb

The only rifles I own that I would even think might deserve claw mounts are less costly than, or as expensive as, the mounts themselves!

Ahhh, for those who sell their time, and even more for those who buy it, the hourly rate is the root of all costs (note that I didn't say evil)! CRYBABY

Duane

Thanks for that - makes sense. If I can get the rifle for the right price it might be worth it.
