I'm in the process of building my ultimate varmint rig and I'm wondering if any one has any experience or knows anything about shipping an action across the border to Canada. Thanks for any help.

Check out www.pmdtc.org . You are required by U.S. law to have an import/export permit to have gun parts exported from the U.S.. It's a pain in the ass, but what choice do we have? I would contact your supplier and find out what they want, but actions definately fall into the category requiring permits, etc.. LOL.

I was going to say, if you are close to the border just take it across, a whole lot simpler.

Mark,

You are correct about problems bring rifles up to Canada. Instead, check out www.prairiegunworks.com in Winnipeg. Ross Spagrud has produced several actions for myself and others here in Canada. We couldn't be more pleased. You don't need to deal with the border to get top drawer rifles. In particular check out his pictures page and you will see my "Coyote" bench rifle, along with various varmint and tactical rigs.

I second the vote for Ross Spagrud. A gentleman to talk with and builds real nice rifles. Are you trying to get an action you bought stateside shipped up here or what? If you are, whomever ships it will have to have an export permit. Not from the Canadian Gov. from the US Gov. Somebody conned slick willie into believing that whacks of terrorist/criminal weapons were crossing the border, and he just knew deep in his heart that the only way to stop it was to insist on more paperwork. On the import end (Canadian) I'm not sure, check with a local shop. When I was traveling staeside a lot I just took a copy of the business license from a friends gunshop and had stuff shipped to him. But for a business, they'll need the permit. FWIW - Dan

Mark,
You need to find an FFL dealer inside Canada that can import firearms from US.

There's a pawn shop in Surrey, BC that I heard will bring guns from US to Canada.
They are not gun experts but there's some used guns in their shop, maybe they do the FFL thing just for extra income. Try give them a call.

To get a gun or action into Canada, you need an FAC and someone with an export permit. You do not need an USA (FFL) holder to do this.

If the shiper has an export permit, he simply has to ship the action to you.

You produce your FAC to Customs or have an RCMP officer fax your FAC to customs, then you recieve the gun in the mail or whatever.

It's alot simpler than the US method of shipping firearms...

I think a separate permit is required for each shipment.Mark
