Anyone know if the PTG Mauser bottom metal will fit a VZ-24? If not, what reasonably-priced source would you recommend? I prefer bottom metal with the release in the trigger guard bow, or by a bottom lever.

Unless I'm missing it, I don't see any Mauser bottom metal in their product line

If it is for a 98 then yes it will, except the mag box. Almost all aftermarket guard are 30/06 length and you will have to adjust the receiver opening. Only hinged metal I know of that you would not have to adjust the receiver is a 1909 argentine of the 1904 vert. If you don't mind adjusting the receiver you can pick up mark x metal for about $100 nowdays.

Thanks Don...$100-$120 is about what I had in mind as a target price.

Bill -

The project is my slowly progressing .416 Mildcat. I don't want to use a .30-06 length box if I don't end up having to, so am glad I asked here and received the advice folks have been so kind as to give.

Although at one time in my life I collected a fairly sizeable number of Mauser-made Commercial Mauser Sporters, that was 25 years before Al Gore invented the internet, and so I had and now know little really good info about them myself except for the ones I have actually owned.

Anyway, looks as if I will have to just use conventional bottom metal without the floorplate release in the trigger guard bow unless I can find a 1909 Argentine set, as I will not be altering the length of this action to fit a magazine which would be too long.

Put a ~1/8" spacer block inside the front of the mag box.
Regards, Joe

That's interesting, Joe, and thanks!! I had already planned on having to maybe use a small spacer in the box; this way I could perhaps just use a little thicker one.

Apparently I had misinterpreted the other posts. I thought they were telling me the box itself would not mate up completely with the action body unless the action was opened up. So, I had that wrong, eh? For once being wrong might be GOOD news...
