I've shot a TC Black Diamond since they came out. I use musket caps (no flange) Now all the rage seems to be 209 shotgun primers. I have a conversion kit which seems to be only a different style nipple with a wire wrapped around it. Is this safe and does it work? one guy said he had lots of fragments flying out of the breach when he tried it. Is it that much of a disadvantage to use musket caps ?

No need to change if the musket caps work for you. I think for the most part the 209 promers are a gimmick, sure they work just as well but I can't really say they work better. About the only thing I could say however is that if I were hunting a lot where it was rainy all the time I would probably use them then.

358,I use the 209's and they work fine, but I think the only advantage is if your useing the Pyrodex or 777 type powders, with black the musket's are fine, My 8 bore under hammer likes black and the musket caps best

I have to agree also that the 209 is over rated, below is a link that sounds interesting and thinking of changing to this set up on my encore, I dont know if it will work on the black diamond. encore primer change
