I'm thinking very seriously about a .450 Rigby and obviously the CZ 550 is the way to go now days. But seeing as how I don't know a whole lot about this kind of stuff I thought I would ask you guys. Which way is easier to go, getting the .416 Rigby and just having it rebarreled or getting the .458 and having the action worked over to swallow that massive case? I would like to save as much $$$ as possible. Thanks in advance!! ------------------

Buy a CZ550 action from Brownells for the 416 Rigby, get a good 458 barrel and a stock and roll your own. Don't make the common mistake of going too light in rifle weight. If you need more info, fire me an email.

I think you can get a good rebarrel job for about $400-500 and you will have a proper length magazine and follower. A rechamber/open magazine/new follower might run as much or more. Check with Ron Frey at Freys@ridgenet.net. He did mine and Jim's and that is probably more .450 Rigby conversions than anyone else has ever done. You will still want a new stock because that Euro-horror has too much drop and is yuugggllllyyyyy! Figure another $500 minimum there. So: rifle@$610, reworked@$400-500, stock@500-1000 and you still don't have sights, barrel band sling swivel or recoil pad. Doing it yourself isn't going to be any cheaper than having AHR do it for you, I fear. Good luck. Sarge
