I found a vz 24 mauser sporter (8x57) in the gun shop today. It has the stepped barrel and a micro adjustable peep sight. The finish is a deep blue and is perfect. Reminds me of how remington and winchesters looked like in the 80's. The entire bolt is highly polished crome. It does not have a low safety or a bolt bent enough to clear a scope and is not drilled and tapped for scope mounts. It has a walnut stock with decent figure and a fair recoil pad. It is lightweight and feels great. The price is $300 out the door. I would like to have one already scope ready but this one is so pretty. What do ya'll think?

$250 tops for a decent, scoped scoped pawnshop sporter. Not a penny more.

drilling and tapping.....guess $40
bolt handle alteration.........$75
safety ........................$25 to $300
Timney trigger.................$50
(prices vary immensely)

If the stock is salvageable it's a big thing if it's not then the value is no more than $175 as I've sold quite a few actions only for that!

Tex21 isn't far off.....it's largely dependent on the salvageability of the stock.....if you intend to scrap the wood then it'sfar far overpriced!

The parts from the rifle you describe are worth $200 to $250.

The price to pay for a gun (any gun) is a very personal thing. If you check with most people, when they are buying something they think what they are buying is worth sh_t, but then when they are selling the very same item its worth ten times more.

There is a lot of instrisnic value in a gun that is not measureable. I say if you really like the VZ24 and you find one that is in really nice condition and you want it for your collection, then don't worry about what other people will pay for it. Buy it and enjoy it while you can.

The stock is definately a keeper. What really got my attention was the bluing. Most sporters I have seen in this price range usually have the old military finish, but this one has a very nice finish.
